Play cloths sustainable and open-ended toys

A play mat is the perfect example of an open-ended toy. It gives a child's imagination free rein. Moreover, a play mat is a toy that grows with a child's development and interests. This means a child can play with it for years to come. So, it's wonderfully sustainable!

Play cloths are a more sustainable and animal-friendly alternative to play silk

After years of dyeing play silk, I decided I needed a different approach. So I started looking for a material with the same properties as play silk, but more animal-friendly and sustainable. In collaboration with a wonderful company, we're creating play cloths made from fabric made from recycled PET bottles. This fabric is stronger, wrinkle-resistant, and machine-washable with your regular laundry. And it's just as magical as play silk.

Play cloths in different sizes and colors

The Little Botanic label offers play cloths in 14 different colors and 3 sizes: the mini size (30x30cm) with or without a wooden ring, the medium size (65x65cm), and the large play cloth (95x95cm).

What size play cloth should I buy?

Play cloth for 0 - 1.5 years

A play cloth can be used from 3 months old, as it's a very lightweight material. For ages 0 to 1.5, I recommend the 30x30cm play cloth. It can be used with or without a wooden ring for peek-a-boo games.

Play cloth for 1 - 3 years

The 65x65cm play cloth is the perfect size for children aged 1-3. It's a handy size for this age group, perfect for dressing up or using as a blanket. A larger size often leads to more frustration.

Play cloth for 3+ years

For ages 3 and up, I recommend the 95x95cm play cloth. It's a great size for dressing up, building forts, and as a blanket. This doesn't mean, however, that children over 3 can't play with the medium play cloth. At home, my 6-year-old daughter still plays with all sizes of play cloth.
